Transfer News: Brendan Rodgers reveals Youri Tielemans has not rejected Leicester City contract amidst Manchester United interest
Speaking in an interview, as quoted by Daily Mail (h/t Sports Mole), Brendan Rodgers has revealed that Leicester City star Youri Tielemans has not rejected a new contract amidst interest from Manchester United.
The Foxes have had a rather slow start to the season, but one player who has not dropped any levels from last season is certainly Tielemans. The 24-year-old has shown time and again why he starts for Leicester and his 121 appearances for the club also indicate his importance to the side.
The Red Devils are, thus, interested in signing the midfielder, as he could add a lot of quality in the ranks. Moreover, with Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic potentially exiting the club by the end of the 2022/23 season, getting a deal over the line for the Belgian will be a clever move.
It was also thought that the Leicester ace had rejected a contract at the King Power and would run down his contract, which is set to expire in 2023. However, Brendan Rodgers has now put an end to these rumours and has denied claims that the former Monaco man has rejected a contract.
He told reporters in an interview, as quoted by Daily Mail (h/t Sports Mole):
“There are reports, but there’s [been] no turning down. I think there’s just dialogue between the club and Youri’s people. I think the club are waiting to hear back. But that’s something that’s out of my control. What I can control is his mentality, his commitment to the team, and you cannot question that.”

Thus, while there is a dialogue between the concerned parties, the midfielder has not put an end to his future at the Midlands club.
Moreover, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and co will need to provide Tielemans with a convincing project, given that Liverpool, Barcelona, and Real Madrid are also ready to snap up the Belgian international.
