Gabriel Agbonlahor believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took a ‘cheap’ shot at Manchester United star Marcus Rashford
Speaking to talkSPORT (h/t Mirror), Gabriel Agbonlahor has claimed that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer deserves to be criticized after he asked Manchester United star Marcus Rashford to concentrate on his football.
The 23-year-old has done a lot for the community recently as he helped children living in food poverty. For his services, the Englishman was awarded an MBE in 2020 as well as an honorary doctorate by the University of Manchester.
On the football side of things, the winger recently made his return after his shoulder surgery and scored in the defeat to Leicester City. However, before the game, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had claimed that his young attacker now needs to ‘prioritise football’.
Former Premier League ace Gabriel Agbonlahor has now explained that the Norwegian boss should be criticized for his comments as Rashford was doing a good deed. Agbonlahor told talkSPORT (h/t Mirror):
“Ole’s back-tracked there in his second interview because he knows the backlash that he’s received from the media, from ex-players, from pundits. Because Marcus Rashford what he’s done for kids, he’s challenged the government, made them change their mind… But it’s not affecting his football.
“So, I thought it was a cheap shot from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and he’s tried to backtrack. Even when he was saying the comments, he was stuttering because he was thinking ‘I shouldn’t say this. He deserves to be criticized for it.”

The English international has always kept his football separate from his service to society. In fact, since undergoing surgery, he has focused on making his return to the first-team squad.
Although the 48-year-old manager did not mean to hurt any sentiments by asking his player to focus on events on the pitch now, perhaps it could have been framed better. Regardless, Rashford will continue to provide his best to his boyhood club as they look to overcome a daunting fixture schedule this month.
