According to The Athletic (Subscription Required) [h/t The Express], the recent comments made by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer about Manchester United star Marcus Rashford have not gone down well with the player’s camp.

The 23-year-old star has been pivotal for the club over the last half a decade but missed the start of the current season as he had undergone shoulder surgery. However, the youngster has been in the recovery process and finally made a return against Leicester City this weekend.

His importance was highlighted almost immediately as he scored the 2nd goal for the club and showed hopes of a come-back. He was also awarded an MBE recently for his inspirational work in helping reduce child food poverty, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, in turn, stated that the attacker now needs to focus on football.

Solskjaer told reporters ahead of the game to Leicester (h/t The Express):

“He (Rashford) is coming into the best age for a footballer, and he’s got a challenge on his hands here at Manchester United – and has a challenge on his hands to play for England. Marcus has done some remarkable and fantastic things. But now he maybe needs to prioritise his football.”

These comments have ruffled a few feathers in the player’s camp as they feel that the boyhood United player has placed the utmost importance on making a return from his injury.

It is also thought that those ‘close’ to the Englishman knew that his Norwegian boss did not mean it negatively but were ‘upset’ that he had to make that sort of a remark before the youngster’s return.

Regardless, the 23-year-old will now have to fight to nail down a spot in the starting line-up, given the rich attacking talent in the current United squad. And he has shown time and again that he can do good off the field as well as on it, without having to compromise either on either one of them.
