Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer claims that he missed Fred in the defeat to Leicester City
Speaking after the game (h/t The Metro), Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed that Manchester United missed Fred in the defeat to Leicester City on Saturday.
The Red Devils had a dreadful outing at the King Power Stadium as the Foxes ran them to the ground in the second half of the game.
The gaps in midfield were clear as day, and the only recognized central defensive midfielder Solskjaer had employed was 33-year-old Nemanja Matic. While Scott McTominay was brought on later, one player that was unavailable for selection was Fred.
The Brazilian has featured in the majority of games this season but has been criticised for his ‘performance levels’. Regardless, he could have put in some dogged defensive work had he featured against Brendan Rodgers’ side on Saturday.
However, given that he had played for his country against Uruguay on Friday morning, it meant that he would miss the weekend clash. Solskjaer has now revealed that he missed the Brazilian as well as Uruguayan forward Edinson Cavani.
The Norwegian told reporters after the game (h/t The Metro):
‘I have got many good players. Fred, Edinson Cavani, you miss them. I am not making excuses for the team I put out there, they are top footballers, and we have not produced.’

Solskjaer would be hoping that he will have his South American contingent, including Fred, available for the mid-week game against Atalanta in the Champions League, as United look to make it to the knockout stages of Europe’s premier competition.
This was a huge game for the club as they could have added more pressure on league leaders Chelsea and the chasing pack of Liverpool and Man City. However, with a defeat, they are now out of the Top 4.
