“Hugely popular individual”- Manchester United say their goodbyes to Turkey bound midfield star

Manchester United bid farewell to Fred ahead of potential Fenerbahce transfer

Manchester United have released a statement to bid farewell to Fred ahead of his potential move to Fenerbahce in the ongoing transfer window.

According to the Manchester Evening News, the Red Devils have accepted a €15 million package deal for the Brazil international from the Turkish giants. Now, the midfielder is set to undergo his medicals before the deal becomes official.

In a statement via MEN, United confirmed that they had reached an agreement in principle with the Super Lig outfit for the 30-year-old. The Red Devils hailed the former Shakhtar Donetsk star and wished him the best of luck.

“The 30-year-old leaves so many positive memories from his time at Old Trafford, where he has been a hugely popular individual, both as a person and as a player.

“Everybody at the club would like to wish the very best of luck to Fred for the future, as we await confirmation that the deal is completed.”

In the summer of 2018, the Old Trafford side acquired the services of Fred. Subsequently, he was mostly a backup player for the Manchester-based club initially.

However, the midfielder’s influence in the team subsequently grew under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The Brazilian formed a pairing with Scott McTominay in the engine room for a considerable period.

However, last season, Fred’s game time dwindled. He started in just 12 matches in the Premier League. The midfielder was not the first name on the team sheet for Erik ten Hag. His compatriot Casemiro and Christian Eriksen were the gaffer’s go-to players.

In the 2022/23 term, the former Real Madrid star and the Danish national formed an impressive partnership for us in the middle of the park. Now, we have also added Mason Mount from Chelsea to our ranks this summer.

With Fred in the final year of his current contract, it is seemingly wise for the Old Trafford side to cash in on him. The midfielder has also been inconsistent during his time at the Manchester-based club. But the Brazilian has been a loyal servant to the club over the years and deserves the best in his next endeavour.
