Victor Lindelof brings Manchester United cheer on the injury front

Swedish star Victor Lindelof has brought Manchester United some good news on the injury front as they look to deal with a series of season-defining clashes across multiple fronts.

The Red Devils had lost skipper Harry Maguire to an injury in late September and his defensive partner Raphael Varane followed suit on Sunday. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer now faces the prospect of negotiating the next few weeks without his first-choice centre-back pairing.

The Norwegian would have had his fingers crossed that Victor Lindelof would get through Sweden’s clash against Greece. The 27-year-old did not just get through unscathed but also led his nation to a 2-0 win on the night.

According to Manchester Evening News, the Swede coming out unscathed is a victory of sorts for United. Lindelof and Eric Bailly will now take centre stage as the club’s centre-back pairing this weekend.

The duo may be our third and fourth choice defenders but on their day are capable of holding their own. Lindelof in particular will be called upon to do much of the heavy lifting in the coming weeks.

United have looked susceptible at the back in recent weeks and Solskjar cannot take his depth in the position for granted. We have seen what a similar crisis did to Liverpool’s chances of retaining the Premier League title last season.

Make or break?

United are now set to go through 25 days of trials and tribulations. The Red Devils face Leicester City, Liverpool, Atalanta (twice), Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur from October 16 to November 6.

While the fixtures are not easy, we have enough in our tank to see it through. Hopefully, there will be no more injuries that will threaten to derail us even before we get going.

United are currently in the fourth position, two points behind leaders Chelsea in the Premier League standings. Wins against Liverpool and Manchester City will be akin to delivering a double whammy for both sides in the title race. Whether we are up for it remains to be seen.
