Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reveals Anthony Martial came off vs Everton due to a minor injury
Speaking in an interview after the game (h/t official club website), Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer revealed that Anthony Martial suffered a minor injury against Everton.
The Frenchman was a surprise inclusion in Man United’s starting XI as Cristiano Ronaldo was dropped to the bench after playing 90+ minutes against Villarreal mid-week.
Martial repaid his manager’s faith after netting in the 43rd-minute but was taken off just a few minutes before the hour-mark. And according to Ole, the decision to bring him off was due to a minor injury that he suffered during the game.
“Great movement, great interlink play. Scott [McTominay], Mason [Greenwood], Bruno, Anthony: good finish. Very pleased for him and with him. Unfortunately, he got a knock and had to come off.”
Minor injury for Martial
Martial, alongside Man United teammates Raphael Varane and Paul Pogba, is in contention to play for France against Belgium in their UEFA Nations League semi-final.
If Les Bleus beat Belgium, who are also coincidentally nicknamed the Red Devils, on the 7th of October, then either Spain or Italy will await them in next Sunday’s showpiece final. It remains to be seen how serious this knock is for Martial.
Fans would be hoping it was just a precautionary decision to take off the former AS Monaco man, and that he can represent his country in their upcoming matches.
