Ole Gunnar Solskjaer blames counter-attacks as the reason why Manchester United can’t keep clean sheets after Everton draw
Speaking after a disappointing draw against Everton (h/t Manchester Evening News), Ole Gunnar Solskjaer stated that Manchester United’s failure to deal with counter-attacks is costing them clean sheets.
Man United have not kept a clean sheet in 7 consecutive games in all competitions, and that is an obvious cause for concern. The last time they didn’t concede was against Wolves in August.
In their last 6 games, the club has managed just two wins. Their most recent disappointment came in a 1-1 draw against Everton at Old Trafford this Saturday.
The Red Devils were dominating the game and had the lead through Anthony Martial’s 43rd-minute striker. But much to Solskjaer’s dismay, a counter-attack against the run of play was all it took for the Toffees to get an equalizer.
Ole blames counter-attacks
“The amount of goals we’ve conceded in games, we conceded one and that’s one too many. Today, it’s a counter-attack they throw at us, we were well enough organised and should have dealt with the situation a lot better.”
The Norwegian boss was disappointed that the goal came against the run of play, but was aware of the problem at hand.
“… that was the same case against Villarreal, we had too many counter-attacks against us and that’s something we definitely need to work on. We do face teams who allow us to have more possession and with the result today, I understand they go away disappointed. We have started better than last season but it’s still not what we wanted.”

The fans would not care for words anymore and would want to see the improvement on the pitch. More than counter-attacks, it’s Man United’s wastefulness and lack of organization at the back that would irk them the most. This was certainly not the result anyone associated with the club needed just before another long international break.
