Ole Gunnar Solskjaer explains reason behind absence of Manchester United ace Anthony Martial
Speaking to MUTV ahead of the game against (h/t Manchester Evening News), Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed that Manchester United star Anthony Martial could not make the trip to Leicester City as he was unfit.
The Red Devils dropped points for a third consecutive week after losing to the Foxes 4-2. Solskjaer had to make some changes in his squad after they were injury troubles in the defence as Raphael Varane suffered a knock during international duty with France.
However, another player that failed to make the trip was Anthony Martial. The Frenchman was also a part of the squad that won the UEFA Nations League final recently. He scored his first goal of the season in the club’s last game against Everton just before the international break.
Solskjaer explained the reasons behind the striker’s absence before the game. The Norwegian told MUTV (h/t Manchester Evening News):
“No, he’s (Martial) come back from France [duty] not fit so, he’s not trained all week. Hopefully, we can have him back soon.”
United had a front three of Jadon Sancho, and Cristiano Ronaldo Mason Greenwood on the day, with the latter opening the scoring by a thunderous strike. In some good news for the club, Marcus Rashford was able to make his return and scored United’s 2nd goal on the day.

However, for Martial, the competition to nail down a starting spot is only going to get harder now with the return of Rashford. The 25-year-old has already suffered for game-time this season and would be hoping to make it back soon to get some much-needed minutes.
With important fixtures coming up in the following weeks, Martial will have a chance to impress his boss and become one of the first names on the team sheet again.
