“Trophyless season loading”- Man United fans react as West Ham stun the Red Devils at home in the Carabao Cup

Manchester United fans react as West Ham United knock the Red Devils out of the Carabao Cup

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Manchester United were knocked out of the Carabao Cup at home as West Ham United held out for a 1-0 win at Old Trafford.

David Moyes’s side have United a real fight in their Premier League clash at the weekend. While the Red Devils may have triumphed on that occasion, they could find no way past a resolute Hammers defence at home.

In the end, an early first half-strike by Manuel Lanzini proved to be the difference-maker. United had a number of attempts at goal but failed to show off a clinical edge to their game. While the Carabao Cup may not be our top priority, being knocked out this early is very underwhelming.

The much-changed United side were missing some of their best players. It however included summer signing Jadon Sancho and had enough quality to see off West Ham.

Despite dominating possession and having more shots, United were just unable to find a way past West Ham. For now, former boss David Moyes is the one who will depart Old Trafford with a smile on his face.

According to Manchester Evening News, Solskjaer was serenaded by the Stretford End at full-time. While being supported is well and good, just how long fans will be ready to put up with the Norwegian falling short remains to be seen.
