Manchester United given a triple-boost by rule changes for the new season

According to MEN, Manchester United are set to benefit from a number of rule changes made for the domestic cup competitions for next season.

With games coming thick and fast since the restart, United stars have struggled to cope with fatigue. It has been a long and hard season, with at least one more match left to go this season.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer brushed away talk of his players suffering from burnout. He also associated the condition with his team’s mental strength.

Manchester United could potentially play lesser domestic cup games next season

“Physically we’re fine, all the teams have played many games anyway.”

The Red Devils have seen a drop in performance with time. There is no doubt that the long season has taken its toll on them, mentally and physically.

Rotation is the name of the game as United seek to negotiate a tiring season. With domestic cup rules getting tweaked for next season, the Reds faithful can heave a sigh of relief.

The FA Cup has done away with replays for the 2020-21 campaign
There will be no FA Cup replays during the 2020-21 season

Not only will there be no replays for the FA Cup fixtures, but the two-legged semifinals of the Carabao Cup will not be accommodated in a single match.

With the Champions League making a comeback at Old Trafford, United will have to ensure their squad has enough depth and quality to stay fresh over the course of a full campaign.

The prospect of potentially having to play lesser domestic fixtures will thus appeal to the United management.

It can also serve as an audition for players seeking to make the step up to the United first-team.

These changes come as a stroke of good fortune for United, who are yet to complete their 2019-20 campaign. The Red Devils will face off against Sevilla on Sunday in the Europa League semifinals.
