Manchester United receive massive boost as Dortmund chief drops hint about Erling Haaland
Speaking to Welt am Sonntag (h/t The Sun), Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has accepted that it would be ‘difficult’ to keep Erling Haaland next season amidst Manchester United links.
The 21-year-old has been one of the best forwards in European football in the last year and has been in scintillating form for Dortmund since he made the move from Salzburg back in January 2020.
Haaland has taken very easily to German football and knocked in an absolutely ridiculous 41 goals in 41 games for the Bundesliga outfit last season. This Norwegian has not lost a beat this season as he already has 11 goals and 4 assists in 8 appearances – insane numbers even for somebody of his quality.
The youngster did attract a lot of attention from clubs this summer, but Dortmund managed to keep the 21-year-old. However, Manchester United, alongside Real Madrid are interested in orchestrating a move for the striker next summer as he apparently has a release clause worth something between £75-100million that can be activated at the end of the current season.
Now, Dortmund chief Hans-Joachim Watzke has also accepted that it would be hard to retain the Norwegian’s services next summer. He told Welt am Sonntag (h/t The Sun):
“Of course, it will be difficult. I am not saying, however, that it is completely out of the question. We’ll do everything we can to keep our top players loyal to us in the future.”

The Red Devils will have Edinson Cavani out of contract next summer and could sign Haaland to boost the attacking options in their monstrous squad. Fans of the Old Trafford outfit would be mesmerized by the prospect of Cristiano Ronaldo and the 21-year-old linking up in what could be a near-perfect frontline.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would also be eager to reunite with his former Molde disciple, but it remains to be seen if the Manchester-based club do get a deal over the line for the striker.
