Don Hutchinson urges Donny van de Beek to leave Manchester United to resurrect his career

According to BBC 5 Live Sport (h/t Daily Mail), former Premier League star Don Hutchinson has urged Manchester United star, Donny van de Beek, to leave the club to keep his footballing career alive.

The Dutchman joined the Red Devils last year but has failed to nail down a starting spot. Most of his appearances have come off the bench and he is nowhere close to being called a regular first-team player.

Van de Beek did start United’s Champions League tie against Young Boys but was taken off at halftime. His time on the pitch in the Premier League stands at a meagre six minutes after five games.

According to Hutchinson, Van de Beek should be doing better than playing the odd minutes in second-tier competitions such as the Carabao Cup. The chances of him making it at Old Trafford are remote unless he plays regularly.

“He cannot afford just to be sitting on that bench, playing in the League Cup midweeks and playing odd minutes and getting brought on and getting taken off. If I’m Donny van de Beek I need to move on from Manchester United.”

With the World Cup just 18 months away, Van de Beek will need to prove his worth to stand a realistic chance of making the tournament. National team boss Louis van Gaal isn’t a fan of the player’s decision to move to United. The lack of regular playing time will just hand him more ammo.

Van de Beek’s situation has caught the attention of former United striker Dimitar Berbatov. He believes the Dutchman hasn’t been given a proper chance to prove himself for the Red Devils.

Van de Beek saw a move to Everton blocked in the summer. Ole Gunnar Solskajer has also shown little to suggest he can get the best out of the player. Whether he is willing to stay on and risk his future or demand a move elsewhere remains to be seen.
