Team News Update: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirms four changes in the Manchester United squad to face West Ham

According to the latest team news update by English outlet Mirror via the club’s official website, Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed four changes to the side that will face West Ham United in the Carabao Cup tonight.

The Red Devils saw off the Hammers in a close match against the same opponents at the weekend. They now go into tonight’s match looking to repeat the result.

However, with matches coming thick and fast, Solskjaer is ready to ring in the changes. The team that could take the field tonight will be different from the one that played on Sunday.

According to the report, the Carabao Cup is not high on Solskjaer’s list of priorities. He could give the club’s fringe players a chance to impress and stake their claim for more playtime.

The Norwegian has gone on to reveal the names of four players who will be involved on the night. Of the four, one name stands out-Phil Jones. The Englishman has not featured for the club since January 2020 and has struggled with injuries since.

Solskjaer admitted that the defender has seen action in Under-23 games and has worked hard to return to contention. Whether he will start the game or will come off the bench remains to be seen.

“He will be in the squad. It’s a good day for him and for us, and it’s something that he has earned.”

Solskjaer also went on to confirm that Alex Telles and Anthony Elanga could play a role on the night. Telles will be making his first appearance of the season should he play.

“Alex has worked well and will be in the squad as well.”

The United boss went on to add that Elanga for his part was upset at being left out for the trip to the London Stadium. The young Swede now has the opportunity to show his manager what he can do.

“He was disappointed not to travel down to West Ham but he scored for the Under-23s and now he’s ready. He’ll be involved in the squad.”

Apart from the trio, Jesse Lingard is set to start for Manchester United, Solskjaer confirmed. There was a sense of cruel irony where Jesse Lingard was the one to score the winner against West Ham on Sunday. He can drive the dagger in deeper should he make the difference tonight.
