Manchester United expecting EFL Cup semi-final against City to go ahead
A report by Manchester Evening News states that Manchester United expect that their semi-final against Manchester City in the EFL Cup will go ahead.
The news comes after the Cityzens had their Premier League match against Everton postponed on Monday night due to a Covid-19 outbreak in their squad.
But the club did not return any more positive tests in further testing conducted a day later. As of now, 5 City players are in quarantine as the club prepare to take on Chelsea this weekend.
The Premier League will conduct more tests on Thursday and Friday before they play on the weekend. The Cityzens are then expected to take on United in a one-legged semi-final on the 6th of January.
The report claims that any postponement of the semi-final tie depends on the evaluation of the Chelsea-City league game. If that game is conducted smoothly, the cup tie should not be in any danger.
If it is to be postponed, there is ample time for the two clubs to reschedule. The Carabao Cup final has been postponed from the last week of February to 25th April.
There has also been no contact by EFL to indicate to United that the derby can be postponed. The match cannot be forfeited by City according to the rules. (h/t Manchester Evening News)
