There were a lot of doubts surrounding Erik ten Hag’s lineup for the Manchester United vs Liverpool game. The Dutchman was dealing with a lot of injuries heading into the match, especially on the defensive end of things.

Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane, Jonny Evans, Victor Lindelof, Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia were all out with injuries. This led a lot of people to wonder how Erik ten Hag would line up to face the Liverpool forwards.

However, Diogo Dalot, Harry Maguire, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka rose up to the challenge. But, there was another unlikely candidate who outshined them all last night. 19-year-old Willy Kambwala got to start against the Reds as well.

The Frenchman completed 81% of his passes against the Reds while also winning three of his four duels. Kambwala also made some crucial tackles in the final third to help keep the Liverpool attackers away from the goal.

It was a coming-to-light kind of showing for 19-year-old Kambwala. To put up a stellar display at Old Trafford at the young age of 19 is not something a lot of people get to do. However, Erik ten Hag believes the biggest challenge for the Frenchman will be to stay consistent.

He has just come into the eye and if his performances don’t keep up he will be quick to go back to the bench. Kambwala might very well end up being the latest Manchester United youngster to solidify a spot in the starting lineup.
