Alex McLeish tips Manchester United star Donny van de Beek to join Everton in 2022

According to an interview done with Football Insider, former Scotland manager Alex McLeish has suggested that Donny van de Beek could make the move from Manchester United to Everton in 2022.

The Dutchman joined the Red Devils from Ajax at the start of last season in a move worth £36million. However, things have not worked out the way Van de Beek would have wanted them to.

Although the 24-year-old racked up 36 appearances in all competitions last season, most of them were off the bench as he managed lesser than 1500 minutes. United, who already possess the likes of Paul Pogba, Fred, Bruno Fernandes, Nemanja Matic, and Scott McTominay in their ranks, have found it hard to give the Dutchman some consistent game-time.

Former Scotland manager Alex McLeish addressed the 24-year-old’s situation and suggested that he could join Everton in 2022. He told Football Insider:

“The guy has been on the radar of many clubs for a long time. He’s a talented kid, he has just not found his feet at Man United. The expectations are absolutely massive. I’m not saying he would drop a level, he would still be a Premier League player.

“He is highly regarded. The only way that we’re going to see how highly regarded he is is by seeing him on the field on a regular basis. I can see him at Everton.”

The midfielder was also in talks with a late move to Everton during the summer transfer window, according to an interview done by the player’s agent, Guido Albers, with Ziggo Sport, as quoted by the Athletic (h/t Football Insider). However, United blocked the move, and Van de Beek stayed at the club.

But, with the Dutchman yet to start a game for the Red Devils this season, it remains to be seen where his future lies beyond next season.
