Dean Henderson and Phil Jones set to feature for Manchester United Under-23s against Arsenal
According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United duo, Dean Henderson and Phil Jones are set to return to action for the first time this season.
Both players are yet to feature for the Red Devils this season. Jones, for his part, has not played for the Red Devils since January 2020. The 29-year-old has struggled with injuries during his time at the club and this is but the latest obstacle he has had to overcome.
Jones has been working in the gym over his recovery period in order to build fitness and requested to travel to London in order to speed up his recovery. While he is far from a key player at the club anymore, his return to action will hand Ole Gunnar Solskjaer more options.
Solskjaer appears to have the player’s back and even named him in United’s 25-man squad for the Premier League. Jones still has much to do before returning to the first-team fold. The trip to Arsenal will be a step in the right direction.
Another player set to return to action is Henderson who injured himself during the Euros and also tested positive for COVID-19. He has been impressing in training for the last fortnight and is now ready to step up his match fitness.
As of yet, it remains unclear when he will return to the first-team fold. A solid performance against Arsenal will certainly help Solskjaer and co. make an informed decision.
Henderson was primed for a big season that could have seen him cement himself as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper. However, David de Gea has impressed in his absence and is gaining a hold on the starting goalkeeper’s spot. The onus is now on the Englishman to return to fitness and make his case.
