Solskjaer also thanked the club for providing him with a squad that has excellent strength in depth. It was on display on the night as a reborn Lingard came off the bench to put the cherry on the top.

“We have got a good and strong squad.”

The focus now shifts to United’s midweek UEFA Champions League clash against Young Boys. Solskjaer is keen to keep the good vibes going and has already turned his attention to the next game.

“Every three or four days, you play a game that matters, with a crowd and supporters who believe.”
