Gary Pallister backs David de Gea to stay put as the Manchester United number one
According to Manchester Evening News via FreeSuperTips, former Manchester United star Gary Pallister has backed Manchester United star David de Gea to keep hold of the starting goalkeeper’s spot at the club.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer rotated between De Gea and Dean Henderson last season. The former had a testing few months following his performance in the Europa League final and being dropped to the bench for Spain at the Euros.
Dean Henderson’s injury and testing positive for Covid-19, however, handed the Spaniard the initiative and he has, to his credit,s took it well. De Gea has started all three of United’s games this season and looks to be back to his best.
“They’ve got to take the chance when they get it, and David is doing that at this moment in time.”
According to the report, Pallister is sold on De Gea’s performances so far and believes the starting spot is his to lose. With Henderson currently out of the picture, De Gea could cement himself as an undisputed starter in the coming games.
“I think David sort of nicked it back at the end of last season and has been given the nod so far this year.”
Pallister was full of praise for De Gea’s performance at the Molineux and believes the Spaniard is returning to his best. He goes on to add that the onus is now on Henderson to make his case.
“I think David deserves to keep the gloves and it’s up to Dean to take that place back again.”
De Gea must be given his due for stepping up when he got his opportunity. For now, he appears to be in top nick and deserves to start in goal. As things stand, United fans have little to worry about as far as their goalkeeping department is considered.
