According to the report, Sir Alex Ferguson played a key role in Ronaldo’s decision. The legendary Scot helped mould the Portuguese stalwart from a prospect to a world-class player. Ronaldo does not appear to have forgotten it.

“It made the decision very easy for me.”

Three former players, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Michael Carrick and Darren Fletcher also played key roles in convincing the player to return to Manchester. The trio not only shared the field with Ronaldo during his time at the United but also hold key positions within the club today.

“I have played with Ole, Fletch [Darren Fletcher] and Michael Carrick, they know me. They know who I am and how I play”

Ronaldo is especially glad to be back at the club and is looking forward to the future. While he admits that the people have changed, United remains a club still intent on winning major trophies.

The Red Devils have not won a single major honour since the 2017 Europa League. Despite a number of close calls, we have failed to drive home any advantage we may have had. Ronaldo is keen to help bridge that gap and take us back to the pinnacle of the sport.

“Things have changed but the mentality has never changed, it is always to win and I am here to help the club make history again and put Manchester United where they deserve to be.”
