Manchester United snubbed the chance to sign Kalidou Koulibaly for €40million
According to Corriere dello Sport (h/t Sport Witness), Manchester United snubbed the chance to sign Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly for €40million.
Koulibaly has been linked with a move to Old Trafford several times over the years. Despite the rumours, nothing has ever materialised between both parties.
The 30-year-old seems to be enjoying his football at Napoli, after having a difficult couple of seasons with the Italian side. The Senegal international was again linked to Manchester United in the last window. However, the Red Devils went on to sign Raphael Varane ahead of the Napoli ace.
The reports suggest that Manchester United did not feel that Napoli’s asking price for the defender was appropriate. The €40million price tag was said to be a big deterrent for the Red Devils.
Napoli are enjoying a great start to this Serie A campaign. They are currently unbeaten in the Italian League with 3 victories from 3 games. Koulibaly scored the late winner against Juventus on Saturday. The centre-back is also relishing a good time in Serie A.
Manchester United are unlikely to be regretting on passing up the chance to sign Koulibaly either. They have currently got a lot of options in the centre-back department and would be happy with the way this transfer window panned out. They have managed to add a lot of reinforcements to their team.

Indeed, the addition of a world-class commodity like Varane boosts the quality of the team. Apart from the Frenchman, Manchester United also have Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, Eric Bailly and forgotten man Phil Jones as options in defence.
So, while, Koulibaly remains a top defender, him not arriving at Old Trafford should not be an issue for the Red Devils.
