Manchester United star Mason Greenwood misses out on England recall
According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United star, Mason Greenwood looked set to return to the England fold next month.
However, that has not been the case. The 19-year-old missed out on Gareth Southgate’s squad who will be keen to put their Euro 2020 heartache behind them.
Greenwood’s omission is a surprise given his red hot form. He scored in both of United’s games so far this season and has led the line with intent. With Patrick Bamford making the cut, Greenwood has every reason to be aggrieved at his omission.
The 19-year-old has so far made just one appearance at the senior level for the Three Lions. It came to a rather anticlimatic end when Greenwood’s stint in the squad was cut short when he violated Covid-19 norms in Iceland.
He earned a call up to the extended England squad had of this summer’s Euros. However, fortune once again intervened and he had to withdraw thanks to injury. Unfortunately, he has once again fallen short in Southgate’s books.
With the Euros now over, focus shifts to the World Cup qualifiers. England takes on Hungary, Andorra and Poland. The Three Lions are currently top of the group and three wins in the coming matches should all but strengthen their hold.
While Greenwood may have missed out, the United trio of Luke Shaw, Harry Maguire and Jadon Sancho all made the cut. Hopefully, that number will become four in the near future with Greenwood making up the deficit.

Greenwood has all the traits needed to become one of the best players for not just United but also England. He spurned his first opportunity but has hopefully grown wiser since then. He will however have to wait for an opportunity to showcase just that.
The longer he keeps his current form going, the fewer the reasons Southgate will find to exclude him.
