Manchester United ace Teden Mengi will stay at the club this summer amidst rumours of loan move

According to The Athletic (h/t Football League World), Manchester United will keep Teden Mengi at the club this season amidst loan move rumours.

The 19-year-old, impressed with the club’s U-23 team in the first half of last season, joined Derby County on a loan move for the second half of their campaign. The Englishman made 9 appearances under the Wayne Rooney-led side and put in some good performances.

To that end, Derby County wanted the player back on loan this summer, and while a deal was supposedly close last month, it failed to materialize.

However, the Red Devils have now decided to keep Mengi at the club this season, according to The Athletic (h/t Football League World). The 19-year-old had a terrific pre-season campaign as he partnered Axel Tuanzebe in the centre-back role for three out of the club’s four games.

Moreover, given that Tuanzebe has left the club on a loan move this summer, Mengi staying at the club might be necessary. Although the club already has Phil Jones, Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, Raphael Varane, and Eric Bailly at the club, that may not be the case beyond this month.

Lindelof has been expected to leave the club, and if the Swede does leave Old Trafford, Mengi could have a vital role to play at the Manchester-based club this season.

The 19-year-old made his first appearance for the club in the 2019/20 season against LASK Linz in the Europa League but has not managed another appearance since then.

However, given that the Old Trafford outfit is ready to keep him at the club this season, he might be able to rack up some first-team minutes this season.
