Manchester United fans approve as Raphael Varane is unveiled ahead of a rapacious Old Trafford crowd

Manchester United have finally announced the signing of French World Cup winner Raphael Varane.

One of the most celebrated players in world football, Varane’s move to United was no secret. In fact, it was on the cards for some time now.

With fans back in attendance for the season opener against Leeds United, the Red Devils cashed in on the occasion to unveil the player in front of an excited crowd. The surge that ran through the fans when the Frenchman made his way out of the tunnel was indicative of just that.

There was no better way to get the crowd going ahead of the game against our arch-rivals. Clearly, United knew what they were doing.

The 28-year-old becomes United’s second high-profile capture of the summer. Alongside Jadon Sancho, he will add proven quality to a side that has been needing the finishing ingredients.

Varane has amassed over 19 trophies in his career so far, including four Champions Leagues, three Spanish titles and the 2018 World Cup. Hopefully, he will add to the collection during his stay at the Theatre of Dreams.

“I want to make an impact here and I will give everything to become part of this club’s illustrious history.”

The player for his part is happy to be at the club and has set himself lofty ambitions. It will go down well with fans who are hungrily for a return to the glory days. We take a look at how some of them reacted to the news on Twitter.
