Transfer News: Manchester United bothered by Kieran Trippier price tag and age
According to transfer news from The Star (h/t Express), Manchester United have two concerns over a move for Kieran Trippier. The asking price from Atletico Madrid as well as the age bracket of Trippier is said to be bothering United.
In the two seasons that Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been at the club, he has shown that there is no better defensive right-back in the league. However, the downside to such defensive prowess is that he could leave a lot to be desired when it comes to attacking. Modern full-backs are known for their attacking prowess but the jury is still out on the former Crystal Palace defender’s ability up the pitch.
That could be the reason why United are after Atletico Madrid’s Kieran Trippier. The Euros runner-up is known for bombing forward at the drop of a hat, which should offer United a different dimension. There is also the added factor of United lacking decent options apart from Wan-Bissaka at right-back.
However, there seem to be two problems United are sweating over. Firstly, United feel that the £30m Atleti are asking for him is too much given he is in the final year of his deal and is 30 years old. Then there is the age bracket of United’s signings which has ranged from 23 to 28. Trippier, at 30, is clearly an exception being made by the club.

Trippier is a player that United can use as he can offer something wildly different to Wan-Bissaka. United have often lacked that ‘plan B’ when it came to cracking open stubborn teams and a more attacking option such as Trippier might be the place to start.
