Transfer News: Manchester United have two problems in signing Declan Rice
According to transfer news from Express, Manchester United have encountered two problems in signing Declan Rice. While the first stumbling block is Manchester United having a few players in his position, the second issue is the £80m evaluation of the player by West Ham.
Manchester United are serious this season. It seems they have learned their lessons from the last few years and have dived headfirst into the transfer market. A right-winger was needed and Sancho was signed.
However, a midfielder is also on Solskjaer’s wishlist as he tries to plug the gaps in his squad. This is why they have kept West Ham’s Declan Rice in mind. However, it would seem that United have two obstacles to encounter in the chase for Rice.
Rice could be too expensive for United
Journalist Ian McGarry explained the same on his podcast.
“But it is our information at the Transfer Window Podcast that Manchester United expressed their interest in Rice before his very successful and impressive campaign with England over the course of the Euros. The problem or the difficulty for Manchester United is two-fold.
“One is that they have some very highly paid players who currently play in that position in defensive midfield. And secondly, West Ham will no doubt value Rice at around £70m-80m, which is a very substantial fee in Manchester United’s budget when they’re already trying to buy a striker. They’ve already agreed a £73m transfer of Sancho as well.”

United are close to finalizing deals for Varane and Trippier, which will further dent their transfer budget. That would make it increasingly difficult to get a deal for Rice over the line, especially with West Ham’s valuation.
