According to the Express, Manchester United look set to lose out to Tottenham Hotspur in the race to land Barcelona midfielder Miralem Pjanic.

With a full-time manager finally in place, the North Londoners are in the position to make their moves in the transfer market. Given how far off they finished last season, reinforcements are a must ahead of the new campaign.

One man in their sights is Pjanic, a player who has impressed for years at Juventus. He moved to Barcelona last summer but has struggled for form at the Nou Camp. According to Mundo Deportivo (h/t Express), the Catalans are ready to let the Bosnian walk this summer.

The player, for his part, is awaiting offers from interested parties. He will make a decision on his future as the transfer window goes on. This has caught the attention of Spurs’ new managing director of football Fabio Paratici. (h/t Express)

The Italian, who worked with Juventusm secured the player for the Turin giants from AS Roma in 2016. Pjanic spent four years with the Old Lady, where he made 178 appearances scoring 22 goals and assisting 41 more. (h/t Transfermarkt)

Pjanic enjoyed a successful time with Juventus and was named in the Serie A Team of the Year three times in four years. A solid midfielder in his prime, he is now 31 and nearing the latter years of his career.

More Manchester United News

United have no reason to move for Pjanic who is not just in the final years of his career but also unproven in a physical league. While he may still prove us wrong, the Pjanic currently plying his trade at Barcelona is a far cry from the one who dominated the midfield while at Juventus.

Letting Spurs get one over is not something that we could come to regret.
