According to transfer news from Express, Manchester United are targeting Declan Rice for three reasons. A defensive midfielder is on the agenda for United as they try to revamp the squad for a title tilt next season.
Manchester United are not joking about this season. It seems they have learned their lessons from the last few years and have dived headfirst into the transfer market. A right-winger was needed and Sancho was signed. Talks have been going on with Raphael Varane as a new defender is expected to arrive.
However, another position that United are looking to bolster is defensive midfield. Nemanja Matic is ageing and the duo of Fred and McTominay are average at best. That is why it is West Ham’s Declan Rice is a name they have kept in mind.
It would seem that United are going after Rice for three reasons. Firstly, he fits the profile of young players United have built the squad with. Secondly, his Premier League experience at such a young age of 22 appeals to Solskjaer. Lastly, Rice being a defensive midfielder would allow the duo of Pogba and Fernandes to play with more freedom.

Rice could be the one to go as he has snubbed a contract at West Ham. He rightly matches the club’s requirements and can be a good long-term investment. United would be wise to follow up on Rice’s contract issues at West Ham and snag a deal for him.
