Manchester United star Marcus Rashford gifts a PlayStation 5 to young food campaigner
According to the BBC, Manchester United star Marcus Rashford has gifted a youngster a surprise Playstation 5 for his efforts in helping fight food poverty.
Eight-year-old Joshua is a young football fan who helped run a Christmas foodbank appeal. Rashford was the inspiration for the youngster’s initiative and we for one couldn’t be prouder. The United ace to has shown his appreciation for Joshua by also including a personal letter as a thank you for his efforts.
Joshua set up the ‘Barrow United’ drive in December. Thanks to the help from the Barrow AFC Community Trust he managed to collect enough donations to hand out almost 50 Christmas hampers to the local food bank. While it may not appear to be a big number to some, it shows just what difference can be made in order to make the world a better place.
At least 50 more people have had a merry Christmas thanks to the noble efforts of the eight-year-old.
The youngster was obviously ecstatic to receive Rashford’s fight and sent his gratitude across to the English international.
“I just want to say a massive thank you to Marcus Rashford.”
Rashford’s gesture shows the attention to detail the 23-year-old gives to his initiative. Given all the effort Joshua has put in, we are glad that he hasn’t just seen his labour bear fruit but also rewarded with something special. He admits that he is over the moon and we for one believe it is well earned.
“I am so happy I am just lost for words! It’s an amazing gesture and I couldn’t believe it when I found out – I am over the moon.”
A life-changing initiative
Rashford’s efforts to fight hunger have been a talking point for over a year now. The United star raised an impressive £20million in donations from supermarkets to help tackle child food poverty in the United Kingdom.
Rashford helped the charity FareShare distribute four million meals to vulnerable children during the pandemic and also helped bring about a series of Government U-turns over free school meals.
A former beneficiary of the schemes himself, Rashford is well aware of the importance it held to those who availed it. His efforts also earned him an MBE in the delayed 2020 Queen’s Birthday Honours List.
