Manchester United could land Cristiano Ronaldo for £25million this summer

According to Italian publication Gazzetta Dello Sport (h/t The Express), Manchester United can sign Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo for around £25million this summer.

While the amount does appear to be decent for his ability, it must be remembered that Ronaldo is nearing the twilight of his career. Moreover, he has just a year left on his current deal with the Turin giants.

The 36-year-old has been linked with a return to Old Trafford ever since he left for Real Madrid back in 2009. Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes is set to fly to Italy to hold talks over his client’s future.

According to the report, the likes of Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are also in the fray for the player’s signature. While United could make a move, they will need to pay through their noses to meet Ronaldo current salary of £26.6m per year.

Securing a two-year deal for the player could potentially cost around £78.m in transfer fees and wages. A rather extravagant amount that could be better utilized elsewhere.

With a deal for Jadon Sancho almost done, United will finally have a dominant player who can thrive on the right wing. Edinson Cavani’s contract extension also gives us a dependable option up front. The club however needs a dependable centre-back and are better off using a similar account in strengthening that position instead.
