Manchester United fans react as Bruno Fernandes reaches unwanted milestone after a tiring season
Former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho called out Bruno Fernandes for his lack of cutting edge at this summer’s European Championship with Portugal.
The midfield supremo made barely an impact in his first two games and looks far from his best. This will not come as a surprise to United fans who saw him go missing in a similar manner in last month’s Europa League final.
The 26-year-old on his day is one of the world’s best and can flip a game on its head. He can however be forgiven for this slump in form. According to The Telegraph (Subscription Required), no player across Europe’s top five leagues has played more matches for club and country this season than Fernandes.
Fernandes played 70 games over the course of the 2020/21 campaign and a staggering 83 during the calendar year. Given the intensity he plays at, no wonder he looks worn out.
The midfielder is only human and has been constantly thrown into action ever since he moved to United in January 2020. With the World Cup set to be held next summer as well, he is in for a rough time in the coming months.
Hopefully, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer takes stock of the situation and ensures his star man’s minutes are better managed in the upcoming campaign. The last thing we want is to lose yet another talented player to burnout.
We now look at how some United fans reacted to the news on Twitter.

He is a good footballer, but I think his poor performance so far in Euro is due to burnout.

I thought Bruno was human, but people’s expectations or rather their constant search for reasons to make him look shit want him to perform at inhuman levels
Portugal going out could be blessing. Bruno gets a much needed break
