According to Football Insider, Leicester City are closing in on signing 16-year-old Manchester United starlet Chris Popov.

The Foxes have already reached an agreement to sign the teenager following a breakthrough in negotiations. As things stand, the final touches are being added before the move is completed.

Popov is expected to sign an initial scholarship deal. That will however be converted into a three-year professional contract when he turns 17. A left-winger, he has made a solitary appearance for the Welsh Under-18 side.

The youngster will only turn 17 in October. The Foxes are keen for him to link up with the Under-18s before being phased into the Under-23s. Popov had a spell on trial at Leicester last season but United still hold his registration.

The Red Devils have offered new terms to the young forward but the offer from Leicester and a potential move to the King Power Stadium have since turned his head. His days as a Red Devil appear numbered.

While United are not averse to giving youth a chance, he will face a tougher time breaking through at Old Trafford. It is fair to say that the odds are in his favour once he completes the switch to Leicester.

Popov’s move to the Foxes could go through on 1st July.
