Solskjaer reveals the positive impact of Sir Alex Ferguson on Manchester United
According to the club’s official site, Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has attributed the positive impact that Sir Alex Ferguson has had on the travelling squad ahead of the Europa League final later tonight.
The legendary Scot was on the flight to Gdansk and is spending time with the squad ahead of the showpiece event against Villarreal. Solskjaer highlighted the subtle role that Sir Alex might play this week before admitting that he owes his entire career to him.
The Norwegian went on to admit that Sir Alex’s presence will have a positive impact on the players.
“I sat there thinking about this man and what he’s done for the club. I’m sure Luke, sitting next to me, felt the same.”
Ferguson is amongst the most successful managers in world football. Few near his legacy and his knowledge will hopefully make the difference tonight.
“He’s a special man. He’s like an encyclopaedia of football.”
Solskjaer believes Ferguson’s presence will put his players at ease regarding any queries they may have. It is also a trip down nostalgia lane for the Norwegian who is keen to bring the good times back to Old Trafford.
“He’s always about for a chat because this is the club of his heart. I hope he is going to enjoy it tomorrow night because I have to say I owe most of my career to him.”
Welcome but not necessary?
“I am sure we don’t need people to inspire us for the game tomorrow, as much of a legend as he is.”
Luke Shaw welcomes Ferguson’s presence but believes the team does not need any extra motivation to succeed. Bruno Fernandes too agrees with Shaw’s comments and believes Solskjaer has learned enough from the Scot to do a proper job.
“The team is confident, we trust ourselves, we know what we have to do, we’ve worked for an entire season together and this is our moment to enjoy this final and try to do our best.”
