Team News: Harry Maguire included in the Manchester United squad for the Europa League final
According to the club’s official website, skipper Harry Maguire is a part of the Manchester United squad in Gdansk for the Europa League final.
The Red Devils take on Spanish side Villarreal in the showpiece event on Wednesday. Maguire has until Tuesday to prove his fitness to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Maguire has not featured for United since being taken off against Aston Villa earlier this month. While it would be good to have him available, he does face a race against time to feature on the night.
With Maguire out, the likes of Axel Tuanzebe and Eric Bailly have started alongside Victor Lindelof in recent matches. They could once again be in the fray to feature against Villarreal.
While the United skipper still has a slim chance of making the match, the same cannot be said of striker Anthony Martial. The Frenchman has not featured for United since injuring himself while on international duty in March.
Hopes were raised of him featuring again this season after his return to training earlier this month.
However, it appears to have been a faux pas and he is not a part of the United squad travelling to Gdansk. It represents a disappointing double blow for Martial, who was also left out of the French squad for the Euros.
Youngsters Anthony Elanga, Amad Diallo, Shola Shoretire and Brandon Williams are also a part of the travelling squad. Whether any of them will feature remains to be seen.
United have not won a trophy since their Europa League win in 2017. This is a great opportunity for the boys to break that duck.
