Manchester United star Edinson Cavani jumps to the defence of Mason Greenwood against Roma
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had earlier revealed that Mason Greenwood looks to follow in the footsteps of veteran striker Edinson Cavani at Manchester United.
The 34-year-old not only led United’s fightback yesterday but also stepped in and had Greenwood’s back during an altercation. According to The Daily Mail, he wafted in to shove Rick Karsdorp and Gianluca Mancini, both of who appeared to pick a tiff against the United youngster.
Having also scored two goals on the night, the Uruguayan continues to exhibit his importance to the club across different fronts.
The incident kicked off when Greenwood and Mancini clashed by the corner flag, bumping into each other as they argued. Karsdorp perhaps unnecessarily waded in and shoved the United youngster, earning Cavani’s ire.
The 34-year-old immediately stepped in and gave the right-back a taste of his own medicine. He also took on Mancini, keeping the duo off his teammate.
The Uruguayan’s actions would have pleased Solskjaer, who holds him in high regard. If anything, it would harden the Norwegian’s resolve to hold onto the veteran for another season.
The difference-maker
Cavani’s deal at United runs out at the end of the season. Solskjaer has made it no secret that he wants the striker to stay put for another season.
The Uruguayan’s commitment to the club’s cause was on full show yesterday. Roma admittedly had a number of chances and we daresay they may also have pulled off the impossible if not for David de Gea.
Apart from just physically confronting them, Cavani also took the wind out of the Roma defence’s sails with his double on the night. That took his tally to 14 goals for the club this season.
