Manchester United fans react as Eric Bailly extends Old Trafford stay

According to the club’s official site, Manchester United star Eric Bailly has penned a new contract to stay on at Old Trafford until 2024, with the option of a further year.

It represents a remarkable turnaround for a player who appeared to be on his way out until very recently. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had earlier hinted that talks were taking place between the club and the player. It would appear that he was right not to be worried.

With his future at the club secured, Bailly is now aiming to remain injury-free, lift the Europa League trophy this term, and then sustain a push for the Premier League title in 2021/22.

The Ivory Coast international believes penning fresh terms was a no-brainer and he is glad to have done so. He has professed his love for the club and is keen to be part of a brighter tomorrow.

“A new contract is like a new challenge and I’m ready for this.”

He has gone on to add that signing the new deal is a sign of his commitment to the club and his teammates. Hopefully, better times await the 27-year-old.

“That’s why I say the new contract shows the group has confidence in me – the coach, the staff and the players and, for me, that is very important.”

The club’s decision to extend Bailly’s deal could be a ploy to maintain the defender’s value. How this impacts our efforts to land another defender in the summer remains to be seen.

We take a look at how some United fans reacted to the news.
