Manchester United eye Rafael Borre to replace Edinson Cavani this summer
According to several Spanish sources (h/t Sport Witness), Manchester United have been linked with a move for River Plate striker Rafael Borre.
The Colombian international has scored seven goals and made two assists in just 11 appearances for the Argentine giants this season. An energetic center-forward, the Red Devils view him as a replacement for Edinson Cavani.
The Uruguayan international joined United last summer on deadline day. With his deal winding down, uncertainties regarding his future at Old Trafford continues to grow.
A striker was already on United’s agenda heading into the summer window. If Cavani leaves, it will be imperative that we bring in a forward or two.
The 25-year-old Borre is a left-field option for a player who has proven his worth in the red shirt. The 25-year-old has experience of European football, having played for both Atletico Madrid and Villarreal (on loan).
Fans will however be advised to take these reports in the Spanish media with a grain of salt. According to Sport Witness, they were unable to verify the original source. Something very fishy when you consider Borre represents one of the biggest clubs in South America.
United’s need for a striker is not a secret. It comes as little surprise that media outlets continue to link us with any forward under the sun.
Borre is a decent player, however, he is far from what we need of someone entrusted with leading the line. The Colombian was previously linked with the likes of Crystal Palace and Brighton.

Replacing Cavani is no mean task. The 34-year-old isn’t just a proven scorer but also adds much experience to the role demanded of him. An inspiration to the likes of Mason Greenwood, it is clear why Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to keep hold of him.
