Former Manchester United player rips into Fred despite goal in Tottenham Hotspur win

Speaking on Sky Sports (h/t Daily Mail) after the game on Sunday, Roy Keane slammed Fred for his ‘dreadful’ performance against Tottenham Hotspur despite the Brazilian netting the opening goal for Manchester United.

The midfielder was on hand to score a 57th-minute equalizer for United and pull them level. Edinson Cavani scored the first goal of the game but it was ruled out by referee Chris Kavanagh after a lengthy VAR check.

Scott McTominay was adjudged to have fouled Son Heung-min in the build-up, and the latter added insult to injury by putting Spurs 1-0 up in the 40th minute. But Fred’s goal started a massive second-half comeback for United.

Finishing on a high

But Keane saw it differently, calling him ‘dreadful’, and even saying that he expected the 28-year-old to miss the open goal that pulled United level just before the hour mark.

“I thought he [Fred] was dreadful, I don’t know what people are talking about. But again good link-up play from United, which is what they are good at.

One-two in and around the box, poor defending from Tottenham and Fred on the spot. I thought he was even going to miss that, but lovely play.”
