Real Madrid set to reenter the fray for Manchester United star David de Gea
According to the Daily Star, Real Madrid are ready to rekindle their interest in Manchester United superstar David de Gea.
The 30-year-old has been the club’s first-choice goalkeeper for the last ten years. His position has been called into question of late thanks to the emergence of Dean Henderson.
The Spaniard hasn’t played in the Premier League since the end of February and could be sold this summer to free up some money on the wage bill. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is said to be willing to make Henderson his first-choice next season, and De Gea could be sold as a result. (h/t Daily Star)
Real Madrid have been long time admirers of the Spanish international. While all of their efforts in the past have led them nowhere, they could have a realistic chance to land him. Daily Star
De Gea still has two years left to run on his current £375,000-a-week contract. There aren’t many teams who can afford that sort of wages and Real too haven’t been immune to the COVID-19 pandemic.
United are willing to part ways with their star man for £50million. Whether Real will consider it worth the effort remains to be seen.
The goalkeeper started for United in the Europa League clash against Granada last week but was benched against Tottenham earlier today. In the lead-up to the game, Solskjaer revealed that both De Gea and Henderson will compete for the number one spot.
The veteran is no more an automatic first choice at the club. Whether he will stay and fight for his place or seek better fortunes elsewhere remains to be seen.

While Real may rekindle interest, it has to be asked if they really need De Gea anymore. Thibaut Courtois is a reliable goalkeeper and is two years the United ace’s junior. Not that we would complain if they are ready to meet our asking price.
