Scott McTominay singles out three Manchester United players after Tottenham Hotspur win

Speaking to Sky Sports (h/t Manchester Evening News) on Sunday, Scott McTominay singled out three Manchester United players for praise for their showing against Tottenham Hotspur and gave his views on that VAR call.

The Red Devils went into the dressing room 1-0 down after a Son Heung-min goal in the 40th minute. Just a few minutes earlier, United had a valid goal disallowed for a foul by McTominay on the South Korean.

Referee Chris Kavanagh consulted his pitch-side monitor and concluded his decision by ruling out Edinson Cavani’s opener. Speaking about that incident, the Scotsman termed the decision an ‘injustice’ but took it in his stride.

“Sometimes that’s the way football goes. Personally, I’m not a fan of VAR but the referees have to make decisions… Everybody makes mistakes and that’s part and parcel of it. It was a total injustice but you just have to get on with the game.”

All’s well that ends well

United went on to complete an inspired second-half comeback as they finished the game 3-1. Fred scored in the 57th minute to pull them level before Mason Greenwood changed the game from the bench.

And McTominay singled out the duo along with Paul Pogba for praise after full-time. It was Pogba’s pass, after all, that led to Cavani’s disallowed goal.

“Fred was terrific today, along with Paul and Mason. They had real energy and the manager will be pleased with a lot of players today.”

Fred really needed this showing and hopefully, he can now continue to perform at the same level. Pogba is consistently playing well while Greenwood’s goal and an assist would do wonders for his confidence.
