Mourinho feels Paul Pogba should have been sent off for Manchester United vs Tottenham

Speaking to Sky Sports (h/t Evening Standard) after losing to Manchester United on Sunday, Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho said that Paul Pogba should have been red-carded for his elbow on Serge Aurier.

The Red Devils were seemingly off to a great start when Edinson Cavani fired them in front, only to have the goal disallowed for a foul by Scott McTominay on Son Heung-min.

Referee Chris Kavanagh took a dim view of McTominay’s light contact on Son. And to add salt to the wound, the South Korean scored in the 40th minute to put his team ahead.

After being asked about this incident, Mourinho chose to keep quiet about McTominay’s foul. Instead, he questioned the referee’s decision to not send off Pogba for his elbow on Aurier.

“We were unlucky because maybe Pogba should get a red card for an elbow on Serge Aurier. I don’t know anything any more [when asked about Cavani’s goal] I watched Fulham versus Wolves, and I don’t understand anything any more.”

Positive signs

Regular patterns came to light in the second half. United rallied to pick up all 3 points from a losing position, while for Spurs, it was the same old story of surrendering leads.

Goals from Fred, Edinson Cavani, and Mason Greenwood were enough to complete the comeback and put Mourinho’s job in further jeopardy. The result leaves the Portuguese manager’s side 6 points away from 4th spot.

As for United, it was a brilliant game and showed why we are the 2nd best club in England this season.

While Solskjaer may not see it as an achievement, being second-best right now in such a competitive league is a great base to build a title challenge next season.
