Transfer News: Manchester United could turn their attention to Pedro Goncalves
According to transfer news from Daily Mail, Manchester United have earmarked Sporting Lisbon ace Pedro Goncalves as their summer target. The £52m-rated Goncalves is seen as an alternative to Jadon Sancho of Borussia Dortmund.
The Red Devils were heavily linked with a move for the Borussia Dortmund winger last summer. However, it came to nought and the issue of the right-wing went unaddressed.
While United may be able to land the player this summer for a lower price, it does not approach anything that can be called ‘cheap’.
In Goncalves, United have a player who is coming into his own as a top-class performer. The 22-year-old has been prolific for Sporting Lisbon and has scored 15 goals while registering 5 assists in just 27 games this season. (h/t Transfermarkt)
His goals have propelled the Portuguese giants to the top of the Primeira Liga. A right-winger, Goncalves is also versatile enough to play in central midfield. His ability to pick out a pass and also move into channels will see him fit well into a United attack that can now afford to be more fluid.
Goncalves has experience of life in England, having spent two years at Wolverhampton Wanderers. Just 22, Goncalves is seeing a giant leap in his ability as a footballer. If what we have seen this season is anything to go by, he will fit in well at Old Trafford.
The Primera Liga and especially Sporting Lisbon has been a happy hunting ground for United. Three of their best players have gone on to don the red of Manchester. Years ago, it was a certain skinny Cristiano Ronaldo who can to Old Trafford and conquered it and became arguably the best player in the world.

Then followed Nani. He was another skilled customer and served United well. Lastly, there is the mercurial Bruno Fernandes who has lit up the side since his arrival. Goncalves could well follow suit if United decide to pursue him.
