Manchester United have to fork out €60m for Pedro Goncalves

According to the Portuguese outlet Record (h/t Sport Witness), Manchester United have been told what it will take for them to sign Sporting Lisbon star Pedro Goncalves.

The Portuguese international has been one of the standout stars from Sporting’s historic 2020/21 campaign. He scored 23 goals and made four assists in 32 games as the Verde e Brancos won their first Liga title since 2002.

The 22-year-old’s performances have seen him garner attention from across Europe. Liverpool who failed with an attempt to land him last January also remain interested.

Goncalves has been prolific for Sporting

Sporting is well aware of the talent they have on their hands. They are currently in talks with the player’s agent, Jorge Pires over offering him a new and improved contract.

However, it does not appear to change where United or any other club stand with respect to making a move for him. Fernandes’ current release clause is €60m, a figure that is unlikely to change even if he pens a new deal.

The Liga giants are well aware of interest in their star man and accept that a sale could be on the cards. Any hope United had of signing the player on the cheap has come to nought and they will need to fork out the full release clause.

Nicknamed the new Bruno Fernandes, Goncalves has a similar eye for goal as the United star. Just 22, the youngster still has a long way to go in his career and will be a long-term prospect.

A versatile player, he is capable of playing in a variety of different roles. Predominantly a right-winger, he can be considered a cheaper alternative to Jadon Sancho if a move for the Englishman does not pan out.
