Manchester United skipper Harry Maguire caught shouting at linesman after Everton equaliser

According to the Mirror, Manchester United skipper Harry Maguire was overheard shouting at an official after being fouled by England compatriot Dominic Calvert-Lewin during the Red Devils’ 3-3 draw against Everton at home in the Premier League on Saturday night.

The centre-back was trying his level best to defend his side’s narrow 3-2 lead heading into the closing stages of a high-octane clash when he thought he was fouled by the Toffees’ No.9. However, the assistant on the sideline saw nothing wrong with the challenge and waved off Maguire’s vehement protests.

That prompted an angry reaction from the 27-year-old, who flung an X-rated comment at the official, shouting: “Are you taking the p***?”

The Red Devils blew a glorious opportunity to close the gap on cross-town rivals Man City atop the standings. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side stormed to a two-goal lead in the first half, thanks to Edinson Cavani’s opener followed by an absolute cracker from Bruno Fernandes.

However, Everton fought back strongly with two quickfire goals early in the second half. Abdoulaye Doucoure and James Rodriguez took advantage of some generous defending from United to restore parity inside just six minutes of the restart.

The hosts, though, looked set to come away with all three points after Scott McTominay’s 70th-minute strike.

That was before Calvert-Lewin scored with effectively the last kick of the game in the fifth minute of stoppage time to ensure both sides shared the spoils in a highly entertaining contest at Old Trafford.

The draw leaves United two points adrift of pace-setters Man City, who have two games in hand to build a healthy lead in the title race.
