Manchester United owners Glazers not thought to be open to the idea of selling the club at the moment
A report by The Athletic (subscription required) mentions that there is no evidence to suggest that Manchester United owners, the Glazers, are considering to sell the club.
This statement gains more importance when taken in the context of what happened last year. Talks were held regarding the sale of the club to Saudi Arabia.
However, nothing materialised and talks probably broke down because the Glazers were open to selling no more than 20% of the club. (h/t The Athletic)
Much has been said by the fanbase about the Glazers since their controversial takeover at Old Trafford some 16 years ago. The club did experience immediate success under them.
No sale yet
Sir Alex Ferguson led the club to three UEFA Champions League finals and landed multiple league titles. However, fans questioned the owners’ commitment to United after the club faltered under new management.
More recently, there was an uproar in December 2019. The club lost 2-0 to Burnley under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and the supporters made their frustrations public. (h/t Express)
Nevertheless, it doesn’t seem like Manchester United would be under new ownership immediately. If the Glazers are actually against selling the club right now, then it makes sense from their point of view.
They are also quite involved in the club’s operations. Joel Glazer, for instance, is informed about the transfers, and the owners reportedly played a role in United not signing Jadon Sancho. (h/t The Athletic)
