Manchester United star Jesse Lingard set to join West Ham United on loan
According to Daily Mail, Manchester United outcast Jesse Lingard is set to join West Ham United on loan for the remainder of the season.
The move will bring an end to what has been a frustrating campaign at Old Trafford for the Englishman. Lingard has largely been a peripheral player, making a mere three appearances all season. (h/t Transfermarkt)
David Moyes managed Lingard during his brief stint as United manager in 2013/14. It is fair to say that the player left a good impression on the former United boss during the club’s pre-season tour. (h/t The Mirror)
The agreement between United and West Ham was not straightforward. The Red Devils demanded a £1.5million loan fee, while also asking the Hammers to foot Lingard’s £80,000-a-week wages for the rest of the season.
United even went on to inform other clubs that Lingard was still available. The tactic appears to have worked as the deal is now close to being completed.
It will come as a blessing for the 28-year-old, whose first preference was West Ham. If all goes well, he might even make his Hammers debut against Liverpool at the weekend.
Lingard appeared to all but confirm the transfer on his Instagram account. He posted a story that showcased his bags packed with the title “Hammer Time”.
If that did not make matters clear, he went on to share a Sky Sports update which confirmed his switch to the capital. It would appear that a new era is dawning in his career.

A versatile player, Lingard found favour under former United managers Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho. The same cannot be said of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
At 28, Lingard has the ability to become an excellent player elsewhere. This move to West Ham should give him a pedestal to showcase just what he can do.
