Marcos Rojo on the verge of leaving Manchester United for Boca Juniors
A report by ESPN (h/t Daily Mail) states that Marcos Rojo is still in discussions with Boca Juniors over a move from Manchester United, but a transfer fee is yet to be agreed.
The Argentine side hoped to sign the defender on a free as he is in the last 6 months of his contract. However, United have the option to active a clause which would extend Rojo’s contract to the summer of 2022.
It is believed that the player has agreed to personal terms with Boca. It is the transfer fee that is supposedly holding up the deal, as the Red Devils do not want the defender to leave on a free. (h/t Daily Mail)
The 30-year-old last appeared for Manchester United back in November 2019. Since then, he has been sidelined with injuries and was also loaned out to his boyhood club Estudiantes.
He is also not in the first-team picture at United anymore as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has settled on the pairing of Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof in the centre of the United defence.
Long time coming?
Apart from them, Eric Bailly is also impressing recently and has pushed for starts. Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzebe are the other centre-backs at the club.
Rojo impressed immensely before he joined the club in the summer of 2014. He was involved in Argentina’s World Cup final run in the same year before sealing a move to the Red Devils.
