Manchester United caught in a pickle regarding Kieran Trippier
According to The Daily Star, Manchester United and their interest in Kieran Trippier could be affected by the player’s recent ban.
The Atletico Madrid star was banned from playing football for 10 weeks by the FA for breaching betting rules. It would appear that this will directly impact his chances of securing a move in January.
His suspension runs up to February 28, 2021. It means the earliest United can play him is in the Manchester derby on March 6th.
The Red Devils are keen on bringing in competition for current first-choice right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka. Victor Lindelof and Axel Tuanzebe have both deputized for the English international with varying levels of success.
United have held talks with the player regarding a potential move. The player and his family are open to a return to English shores.
However, the fact that he will have to wait until March to don the red jersey is set to complicate the transfer.
It was previously mentioned that Atletico are willing to sell the right-back for as low as £20m. An experienced player, Trippier could be a shrewd addition and will add experience to our squad.
The 30-year-old is also an impressive set-piece taker and will add another dimension to our dead-ball threat.
The player’s absence is an issue the club can deal with provided Wan-Bissaka stays fit. The prospect of having Trippier to call upon towards the business end of the season will give us more options.

The 30-year-old has played every minute in the league this season for Diego Simeone’s side. Mundo Deportivo (h/t Mirror) goes as far as to claim that Trippier is ‘untouchable’ in the Atletico squad.
Atletico are also set to make a move for Arsenal youngster Ainsley Maitland-Niles in January. The youngster is seen as an alternative for Trippier. It remains to be seen if the potential deal spells the end of the 30-year-old’s stay at the Wanda Metropolitano.
