Talking after the cup match against Everton (h/t Mirror), Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer lauded Anthony Martial for his return to form after drawing criticisms earlier in the season.

Anthony Martial picked up a red card in a humiliating 6-1 loss to Tottenham Hotspur in early October. Since then, the striker has been subject to criticism especially regarding his poor goal return.

The Frenchman has just 1 goal in the Premier League this season. However, his performances have been improving in recent times and his manager has been impressed with his contributions.

Solskjaer acknowledged that Martial has been putting in the work and has been chipping in with assists and goals. The Norwegian said that Martial may finally be over the early-season setback against Spurs.

“Maybe his confidence had been bruised by what happened. And he has had to take some criticism.”

A new standard

Solskjaer acknowledged that Martial was impressive with his running statistics against Leeds United. He said that it will be the “new standard” for an improved Martial going into the second-half of the season.

“His running stats against Leeds set a new standard I want him to build on.”

Martial was sublime against Everton in the quarter-final of the Carabao Cup against Everton. In fact, he is pretty much the reason behind the Red Devils reaching their 4th semi-final under Solskjaer.

The former AS Monaco winger set up Edinson Cavani for the opener in the 88th, before adding the second in added time. However, Solskjaer thinks that there is more to come from Martial.

Clubbing him with other attacking talents at the club, the United boss said that the club will be even more potent when Martial, Mason Greenwood, and Marcus Rashford are firing on all cylinders. (h/t Mirror)

While he failed to shine against Leicester earlier today, Martial’s return to form has come just in time for the Red Devils as they go into a busy festive period. United are set to face Manchester City in a one-off match in the semi-final of the League Cup in January 2021.
